Documentation is Job One
It's important to have your things together and ready to show as well as keep up with updated projects. Don't wait every month to have a project up and make sure it looks beautiful when it goes up on the website.
Every Project Must have Documentation
Save two version of every project; one for screen and one for print.
Each project should have a folder and have a pdf, 300dpi and 72dpi of the project ( The more real it looks the better it will look.)
Have captions and project descriptions. In the description it should have: Problem, How did you solve it, and what was the result. ( Don't describe it by visuals but say Why it looks like that.)
Resume, Bio and Head shot
Bio needs to be different lengths (100, 200 and 400 words)
It just needs to be a short describe .
CV is longer and in more detail.
Head shot should have color and non color and match your personality ( have a new head shot every few years)
Website
The website is a way to show your personality and stay on brand. It needs to have a message and philosophy. Also don't forget to update it. Keep it, simple, Simple SIMPLE. Image based Portfolio site for those who don't have that much work.Other layout is to organize by title. If you have a large base then it needs should be separated by client. Also having a note about a recent project would be nice.
Homepage is the first impression. It needs to be clear and helpful to the user if it doesn't come out in the images put it in text. Hierarchy is important. Go first second and third. (Don't forget to change it up every once in a while.)
